Punk may have been born in New York and London, but the 80s Siberian cult band Civil Defense (Grazhdanskaya Oborona) and its visionary leader, Yegor Letov, created something far deeper. The film follows Letov's life but offers no explanation for how his home-recorded songs became the anthems of a generation, long after the fall of the Soviet reality. A visually stunning, lo-fi journey that conveys the visceral power of punk even to those unfamiliar with the genre.
