Prepared for the fiftieth anniversary of British punk, Vive Le Punk not only recalls the history of the movement but also seeks to answer how relevant its original ideas and socio-critical messages still are today.

Danny Garcia, director of The Rise and Fall of The Clash, Sad Vacation, and Nightclubbing, returns with a new documentary. Arriving in 2026, Vive Le Punk ties into the fiftieth anniversary of the British punk explosion to examine the significance of punk today and how the original spirit lives on in the present.
At the center of the film are four bands belonging to the first wave of British punk that remain active half a century after the start of the movement: Sham 69, 999, Ruts DC, and The Boys. This time, Garcia has not made a simple nostalgia film, but seeks to answer to what extent the fundamental ideas and messages of punk have remained relevant in today's society.
The documentary also features exclusive interviews, rarely seen archival footage, concert scenes, and behind-the-scenes material. Interviewees include UK Subs frontman Charlie Harper, entrepreneur and punk activist Joe Corré, poet Dr. John Cooper Clarke, Gaye Advert, as well as writer and DJ Chris Sullivan.
A central theme of Vive Le Punk is the extent to which the social critiques formulated by punk have remained valid over the past fifty years. According to the creators, inequalities, social division, and political dissatisfaction are still defining problems today, so it remains a relevant question whether the anti-establishment punk perspective can appeal to a new generation.
Vive Le Punk will be released to the public in July 2026. The film not only presents important figures in the history of the British punk movement, but also examines how the legacy of the genre lives on in today's social and cultural environment. The documentary thus serves simultaneously as a retrospective and a reflection on how many of the questions raised fifty years ago have remained with us to this day.
