A derelict house in Melbourne serves as a gathering place for society's misfits. At its center is the relationship between an eccentric musician and his girlfriend, defined by the chaotic daily life of drugs and an up-and-coming band. The events are interwoven with bizarre subplots: a chainsaw-wielding maniac obsessed with his machine, and a TV station offering money for a piece of the Skylab space station that has crashed to Earth. The film is constructed from small, overlapping fragments of its inhabitants' lives, which sometimes intersect and ultimately spiral into tragedy.
