'You Weren't There: A History of Chicago Punk, 1977-1984' is a 2007 documentary that provides an incredibly detailed look at the Chicago punk scene. The film places a strong emphasis on comparing the local scene with the punk movements in other major American cities, as well as the British scene overseas. It does so by featuring musicians, DJs, artists, and fans who played a key role in the life of the local movement. Through archival footage, we can follow the paths of early, famous bands like The Effigies, Naked Raygun, Strike Under, and Articles of Faith. The film was conceived and directed by Joe Losurdo and Christina Tillman; Losurdo played bass in the 80s Chicago hardcore band Life Sentence.
